I believe current theories have modern humans interbreeding with Neanderthals starting in the Levant where both lived so I wonder how much genetic variation that population may have seen.

Times and people were so STRICT back then:

Quote
Then, as now, bestiality was a serious crime. But back in 1642, the punishment was strange by modern standards: The authorities worked to determine which animals Granger had had sex with, then killed them in front of him before executing Granger himself. They then buried the animals, as opposed to eating them, because their bodies had been defiled. (This procedure was based off of the Bible passage Leviticus 20:15.)

I stand by the Biblically supported thesis that we are all hybrids from inception, and then even after.

It's just a question of when, where and by whose star people.

Quote
“And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.” (Gen 2:21-22)

Quote
“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they [were] fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also [is] flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare [children] to them, the same [became] mighty men which [were] of old, men of renown.” Gen 6:1-4

Oh I'm totally ok with that.  It's a question of semantics, like how people who'd never speak of the soul will babble on about consciousness as that potentially immortal part of the self.  Every generation or two has to find their own terminology but they are largely talking about the same thing.

Precisely, there is great mythic commonality amongst us all - that we modify and of times mollify our religious sectors and dogmas to keep step with the latest iterations of us is if anything a tell that we continue to anthropomorphize the Creator as fits our societal journey.

I do personally think it is a journey of souls, but that's not to say all are reincarnated nor that new ones aren't being shipped in from far points if the galaxy in a bit of a planetary bum's rush.

As above, so below...and there's a wall we don't begin to know how to build.

Haha yeah now God used to be a watchmaker and now He is a programmer and the universe is a simulation and our brains are computers and our minds are operating systems -- all predictable metaphors the next generation will find wholly inadequate and laugh at.

I've been stuck for years on Gerard Manley Hopkins's image of God as a nesting bird incubating a broken world:

...And for all this, Nature is never spent.
There live the dearest, freshness, deep-down things,
And, though the last lights off the black west went,
Oh morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs --
Because the Holy Ghost, over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with Ah! bright wings.

"The Matrix" series had quite a tailwind, didn't it...

Even the scientists are taking these new "fairies" quite seriously:

https://thenextweb.com/science/2019/11/08/meet-the-scientist-who-thinks-we-all-exist-in-multiple-universes/

According to Everett’s theory, it’s possible that an infinite number of ‘you’ lives somewhere in existence. This bizarre theory is enough to make you question the whole meaning of life, and rethink your beliefs of fate and destiny.

To make sure you rest easy at night, worrying about all your life choices and potential, Carroll assured “The universe knows what’s going to happen and we’ll never know until we actually get there and see what’s going on, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Was this from his melancholic period, a sonnet of desolation?

The arc of his life as a Jesuit but not one who would progress through the order is a bit of a grim tale frankly. But from bipolarity comes great art.

I was surprised to hear he said, ""I am so happy, I am so happy. I loved my life." while on his deathbed. I wonder what brought that last bit of joy on?

Haha yeah its funny to see ancient problems like predestination and theodicy come up in a computerized context with everyone excited about these brave new ideas.

1877 would put it in the same year as his ordination, so early.

Which is going to take me back to ancient sacred art again and the notion that these "grays" that have visited us are perhaps but a modern manifestation of the demons, fairies, cherubs and so on that richly populate the works of artists like Bosch:

Not such a far journey then to the stars, even 4-5 hundred years ago:

If they've always been with us why do we yet lack any scientific finality(that we sheople can accept as fact) as to their origins, goals, and motivations? Doesn't it stretch credulity to find ourselves in the age of A.I. without even remotely mastering our own intellects? Who or what made that happen and why is my closing query... :o

The facile explanation (which is unfortunately still the best one) is that they exist in our minds and pass from man to man like a virus.  But, I'd argue, are no less real, in their ability to influence our lives, than anything we can touch.  This is sort of where Shreddie was going weeks ago with his history-of-ideas stuff where ideas can not be grasped tangibly but you can mark their passage like a breeze through a field of grain.

Take Brexit, for example (which I don't give a fuck about one way or the other):  no collection of bureaucrats in some postmodern Eurotrash building with a stupid flag can ever hope to match the potency of the idea of an independent England which has thrived and inspired sacrifice for hundreds of years -- the idea was bound to reassert itself sooner or later.  But modern people like Shreddie who couch their language of belief as having "no reason to believe/every reason to believe" and require physical proof of everything are ill-equipped to play in this ancient arena, which is as old as man himself.

I will give Azz credit for a lot of stuff.  I initially laughed at his sensitivity to Decon's satanic imagery which I am sure he wears with a wry smile if he thinks about it at all, but he is right; the images are the germs of the idea and you may be resistant, or not.

I don't question the power of the irrational. You're Naphta to my Settembrini (if you haven't read The Magic Mountain). Joseph LeMaistre is well worth looking into, even if he is as sinister as hell. But what people regard as irrationality's greatest strength (because it can't be disproved) is also its greatest weakness (because it can't be falsified). People have all sorts of crazy ideas, just because their effects are real doesn't have any bearing on the veracity of the ideas themselves, which are often pure mob psychology.
